#InPictures: Noeline Blackwell recognised at Galway student event

Noeline Blackwell has been presented with an award from the Women in Law Society at the University of Galway in recognition of her outstanding contribution to furthering the human rights of women in Ireland.

The award was presented on Monday during a careers event where Ms Blackwell spoke alongside Emily Williams from the Irish Council for Civil Liberties and Dr Maëlle Noir from the Irish Human Rights Centre at the University of Galway.

Moderated by current LLM student Emily Donnellan, the event was organised by law students as part of International Women’s Week.

Ms Blackwell is a human rights lawyer and previously worked as CEO of Dublin Rape Crisis Centre and director of FLAC.

She is a member of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, an adjunct full professor at UCD Sutherland School of Law and is also involved with the Children’s Rights Alliance.

“The Women in Law Society are very thankful to Noeline, Maëlle and Emily for taking the time to speak to students about their work in human rights,” Ms Donnellan said.
