#InPictures: Tom O’Malley SC launches University of Galway Law Review Vol II
The University of Galway Law Review launched its second volume at an intimate event attended by two judges of the High Court, members of the University of Galway School of Law and students.
Tom O’Malley SC launched the publication, which is faculty-reviewed by members of the School of Law, in the Harbour Hotel in Galway yesterday evening.
“Good writing like this is important because of the positive impact it can have,” Mr O’Malley said. He concluded that “this journal shows that we are going through a golden age at the School of Law”.
Mr Justice Rory Mulcahy of the High Court, who is on circuit in Galway this week, noted that it is “inspiring” to see law students engaging in “thoughtful” analysis of “complex issues”.
The second volume of the University of Galway Law Review was co-edited by Róisín Elizabeth Cowan and Rhiannon Mulcaire. Ms Cowan said that “the crafting of a law review requires a great deal of love and passion”. She thanked the publication’s sponsor, William Fry, for its “generous support”.
Two final year law and human rights students, Emma Halpin and Tom O’Connor, have been appointed as co-editors-in-chief of the journal’s third volume.
Ms Halpin described yesterday’s launch event as “an enjoyable evening with many interesting contributions” and said that preparations for the next edition are well underway.
The theme of Volume III of the University of Galway Law Review is ‘Progression or Regression: Navigating an Uncertain Legal Landscape’ for which articles of 5,000 words or more are invited until Spring 2024. Those interested in submitting or learning more can email lawreview@universityofgalway.ie.
