Inspector of Prisons to address launch of penal reform group’s latest report
The recently-appointed Inspector of Prisons, Patricia Gilheaney, will tomorrow address the launch of the Irish Penal Reform Trust’s (IPRT) second annual report benchmarking progress in Ireland’s penal system.
The Progress in the Penal System 2018 report will provide a “comprehensive analysis” of the Irish Prison Service’s progress in meeting human rights obligations over the past 12 months.
The report will also include examples of “progressive practice”, both domestically and internationally.
The penal reform group launched its first annual report on the subject in October 2017.
The launch event at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission’s headquarters tomorrow morning will also hear from Deirdre Malone, IPRT executive director, and Michelle Martyn, the group’s senior research and policy manager.
