Investigation launched after machine gun falls out of Garda car
An investigation has been launched after a fully-loaded submachine gun fell out of a Garda car and was found by a member of the public.
The Heckler & Koch MP7 was handed into Store Street Garda Station around 25 minutes later.
A senior garda officer has been appointed to investigate.
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan told RTÉ News: “The issue is currently the subject matter of an investigation by a chief superintendent. It is a matter of grave concern.
“I’m very concerned about the issue - how it might have happened, how it did happen. I’m looking forward to an early report.
“But clearly something went wrong. Something happened here that shouldn’t have happened”.
