IRA bombing victims allowed to sue Gerry Adams
Three men who were victims of IRA bombings can sue Gerry Adams in a personal capacity, a judge in the English High Court has ruled.
Mr Justice Soole ruled that the victims would not be able to sue the IRA itself or the former Sinn Féin leader as its “representative” but that personal claims against him could continue.
John Clark, a victim of the 1973 Old Bailey bombing; Jonathan Ganesh, a victim of the 1996 London Docklands bombing; and Barry Laycock of the 1996 Arndale shopping centre bombing in Manchester launched a civil claim last year for a nominal £1 in damages.
They allege that Mr Adams “acted with others in furtherance of a common design to bomb the British mainland” and was “directly responsible” for decisions to plant the bombs.
