Iraq War campaigners smash £150k crowdfunding target
A campaign group seeking to take civil proceedings against former Prime Minister Tony Blair and other state officials over the Iraq War has smashed a £150,000 crowdfunding target.
The Iraq War Families Campaign Group, which says it campaigns for the families of the 179 servicemen and women killed in the conflict, sought to raise £150,000 to allow a team of lawyers at McCue & Partners to complete a full legal analysis of the Chilcot Report.
The campaign’s crowdfunding page has so far raised over £160,000 and will close later today.
The legal initiative is being led by Roger Bacon and Reg Keys, whose sons were killed in the Iraq War.
The group says it “cannot take any action before has done a full and forensic legal analysis of the Report (2.6 million words over twelve volumes) and prepared a comprehensive opinion approved by expert Senior Counsel. There are no shortcuts.”
Mr Keys told ITV News: “I feel good. We’re back on the road again at last, things have not come to a stagnant end. The fight goes on.”
