Ireland will ratify UN convention on disability rights
Ireland will ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities within six months, The Irish Times reports.
Finian McGrath, the Independent TD and newly-appointed Government minister with responsibility for disabilities, said he had “a commitment from Frances Fitzgerald and from the Government that will be ratified within six months”.
He made the remarks at the launch of a new report by NUI Galway’s centre for disability law and policy.
The report, Article 33: Establishing a Monitoring Framework for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, was commissioned by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) and was launched by UN rapporteur Catalina Devandas Aguilar at IHREC’s invitation.
