Irish barrister Sunniva McDonagh elected vice-chair of EU rights agency
Irish barrister Sunniva McDonagh SC has been elected as the next vice-chairperson of the EU’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA).
Ms McDonagh has served on the agency’s management board since October 2016 and will take up her role as vice-chairperson on 13 July 2020.
The management board consists of independent experts appointed by the 27 member states, an independent person appointed by the Council of Europe and two representatives of the European Commission.
The FRA was established in 2007 to help safeguard the rights, values and freedoms enshrined in the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights.
