James G. Doran
The Law Society of Northern Ireland’s past president James G. Doran has passed away.
Mr Doran, who passed away on Sunday, was born in 1927 and was admitted as a solicitor in 1953.
He served on a number of Law Society committees before becoming president in 1979.
Mr Doran had a long legal career as principal and later consultant of James G. Doran & Co in Belfast.
Darren Toombs, president of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, said: “Jimmy was well respected as a solicitor and as a man of honour and integrity who showed great dedication and commitment to the solicitor profession throughout his career.
“It was a privilege to meet Jimmy at the launch of the Society’s centenary publication at Stormont in 2022 at which he continued to show a keen interest in the profession and the next generation of solicitors.
“On behalf of the Law Society of Northern Ireland I wish to offer our condolences to the Doran family and to his many friends and former colleagues.”
A requiem mass for Mr Doran will be held in St Brigid’s Church, Derryvolgie Avenue, Belfast at 11am tomorrow, Tuesday 27 February, followed by burial in St Macartan’s Cemetery, Loughinisland, Co Down.
