Judge condemns Temple Bar as ‘disgrace to Ireland’
A judge in Dublin District Court has condemned the city’s vibrant Temple Bar district as a “disgrace to Ireland”, the Irish Independent reports.
Judge Anthony Halpin made the disparaging remarks during the trial of a man eventually acquitted of using unlawful violence against another man outside the Czech Inn in Temple Bar.
Judge Halpin told the court: “Temple Bar is a disgrace to Ireland.
“You go up there first thing in the morning over any weekend and you see vomit and puke. These brawls are going on constantly.”
The incident central to the case took place in May 2016.
Temple Bar is heavily promoted by Tourism Ireland as the “cultural heart of Dublin City” with “boutiques, cafes, galleries and pubs … packed with culture-vultures and party-seekers”.
