Judge criticises woman over social media posts about abuse
Judge Patrick Durcan criticised a woman for posting on Facebook about alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her father at the age of 13, the Irish Examiner reports.
Sitting in Ennis Family Court, Judge Durcan said sharing that information on social media “was the most appalling and improper behaviour” despite accepting that the abuse took place.
He said the actions were “nothing short of reprehensible”.
The woman’s father applied for a safety order against her after the Facebook post was published.
Judge Durcan refused the application on the basis that it did not reach the threshold of evidence required.
He added: “In his evidence, this man did not impress me. I am satisfied he has been abusive of his daughter; has been abusive of his family and I am satisfied that the man has no understanding of his obligations to his family and his lack of comprehension is in great measure responsible for the circumstances which exist.”
