Judge John Gerard Buchanan passes away at 91
Retired judge John Gerard Buchanan, the longest-serving judge in the Circuit Court, has died at the age of 91, The Irish Times reports.
Judge Buchanan, who was educated at Trinity College Dublin and the King’s Inns, called to the bar in 1949 and took silk in 1973 before his appointment to the bench in 1978.
When he retired in 1996, he was the joint longest-serving judge in the Circuit Court alongside Judge Diarmuid Sheridan.
Prior to his appointment as a judge, Judge Buchanan also ran as a Fianna Fáil candidate in Dublin South Central in 1966 and 1973.
