Judgment in Oberstown single separation cases not due until end of the month
Judgment in four cases concerning the use of single separation at Oberstown Children Detention Campus will be handed down at the end of October.
The High Court was expected to rule on the cases on Monday, but proceedings were adjourned until this Friday. Irish Legal News has since learned a judgment is not expected until Tuesday 31st.
The cases raise significant human rights issues regarding the segregation of juvenile prisoners in circumstances where each applicant claims to have been confined to their cell, without respite for weeks, in conditions which they allege amount to solitary confinement.
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) has made a submission to each of the cases as an amicus curiae.
