Katie Prendergast BL to lead The SCOOP Foundation
Katie Prendergast BL has been appointed as CEO of charity The SCOOP Foundation.
SCOOP stands for ‘Supporting Children Out of Poverty’ and the charity focuses on empowering displaced and marginalised young people to fulfil their potential in Ireland and abroad.
Ms Prendergast, previously director of programmes at the charity, brings her experience advocating for the rights of marginalised communities in her capacity as a barrister practising in asylum and immigration law.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Prendergast said: “I am honoured and excited to lead The SCOOP Foundation as we work towards our mission of empowering displaced and marginalised young people to reach their potential in Ireland and abroad.
“Refugees and asylum seekers face complex challenges on their journey to safety. Through our diverse programmes, The SCOOP Foundation are dedicated to providing the necessary support to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and thrive.
“I look forward to working with the SCOOP team, partners, funders and beneficiaries to continue making a positive impact on people’s lives.
“As the new CEO of The SCOOP Foundation, I am dedicated to growing the SCOOP community where we can create an inclusive world where all young people have equal access to education and opportunities. As the Irish saying goes; ‘Ní neart go cur le chéile’ (There is no strength without unity).”
