Kennedys boosts Dublin office with addition of two new partners
Kennedys has strengthened its Dublin office with the appointment of new partner, Andrew McGahey, and the promotion of Carol Maguire to the partnership.
Mr McGahey (pictured) joined the Dublin office earlier this year as part of a broader team hire from US firm Mayer Brown in London. With nearly 18 years’ experience of advising on coverage disputes and defending insureds against third party claims, he relocated to Ireland to lead Kennedys’ insurance team in Dublin.
He has substantial experience of advising insurers on claims involving directors and officers, financial institutions and professionals, including fund managers, accountants, trustees and solicitors.
Ms Maguire was promoted to partner earlier this month, having been with the firm since 2011. She qualified in 2007 following her traineeship with O’Hare O’Connor Walshe, the predecessor firm to Kennedys Dublin.
She has extensive experience of advising clients including investment funds, receivers, developers and local authorities in relation to real estate acquisitions and disposals, financing, development structures, commercial leases and asset management.
The headcount in Kennedys’ Dublin office now stands at 45, comprising 10 partners, 27 fee earners, and eight support staff. Twelve months ago, Kennedys also appointed healthcare specialist Joanne O’Sullivan as a partner to its Dublin office. The healthcare team in Dublin has continued to grow with the recent addition of senior associate, Grace Keegan.
Nick Thomas, senior partner at Kennedys, said: “Our growth plan is always led by client need, and demand for services in Dublin has been growing for many years.
“We established our presence in the city in 2011 following the merger with our long-standing associate office, O’Hare O’Connor Walshe. Since then we have been followed by a number of fellow law firms and insurance companies, and the strategic importance of Dublin has grown considerably as the realities of Brexit creep closer.
“The appointments of Andrew, Carol, Jo and Grace demonstrate this and strengthen the range of services we are able to provide clients from this key location.”
