Mr Fogarty called to the Bar in 1988 and to the Inner Bar in 2001, practising mainly in the criminal courts in Dublin.

He was also qualified to practise as a barrister in Northern Ireland and in England and Wales.

He worked as a cameraman for RTÉ in the 1980s before switching to a career in the law.

Mr Fogarty died peacefully in Beaumont Hospital on 20 December 2024 and his funeral mass and burial at Fingal Cemetery took place on 28 December 2024.
