Lady Hale lectures on balance between privacy and publicity
In an address given in London this month, UK Supreme Court President Lady Hale looks at privacy and publicity in the context of the family justice system.
She touches on the Supreme Court’s case law, including Reilly v Sandwell MBC, Khuja v Times Newspapers Ltd and PJS v News Group Newspapers and asks what the general principles are in protecting the interests of the family and children.
Lady Hale also looks at GDPR and its requirement to reconcile the right to the protection of personal data with that of freedom of expression
The speech, entitled Openness and Privacy in Family Proceedings, was delivered on 10 May 2018 at Gray’s Inn.
