Law firms encouraged to sign up to anti-racist initiative

Irish law firms have been encouraged to sign up to Show Racism the Red Card’s new Wear Red Day initiative.

The anti-racism and education charity is encouraging law firms to join other businesses, schools, community and sports organisations in wearing red on Friday 25 November and raise funds for the charity.

All funds raised through Wear Red Day will be used to challenge racism through education resources, programmes and intercultural activities which support integration.

Garrett Mullan, co-ordinator of Show Racism the Red Card, told Irish Legal News: “We’re calling on Irish law firms to get on board with Wear Red Day to help us to continue raising awareness of what racism is and to help us develop our education programmes.

“With 46 per cent of teachers saying they have witnessed racism in the classroom, and increasing reports of racism elsewhere, it’s of utmost importance that racism continues to be tackled and integration promoted.

“It’s easy for law firms to show their support for Wear Red Day - simply get in contact with us, we’ll send you out your fundraiser pack with helpful tips on how to boost donations, wear red in the office on 25th November and collect a donation from everyone participating.

“It’s a fun way to help us raise awareness of racism and how to actively combat it.”

Show Racism the Red Card are also encouraging participants to share their activities on social media using the hashtag #WRD16.
