Law graduate Cathy O’Neill receives Starr Foundation Scholarship in Irish first
Law graduate Cathy O’Neill has become the first student in Ireland to receive the prestigious Starr Foundation Scholarship and study international law at the University of St. Gallen.
The scholarship for highly talented foreign-language students is designed to encourage recipients to engage internationally in the fields of law, education and medicine.
Ms O’Neill, 22, studied law at University College Cork and spent her third year studying at the University of Konstanz in southern Germany through the Erasmus programme, which she said contributed to the move.
She will formally enrol in the Master’s in international law at the University of St. Gallen in northern Switzerland in September.
Ms O’Neill said: “After completing a very rigorous application, I was thrilled to be the first Irish person to be awarded the Starr Foundation Scholarship of 10,000 CHF at the University of St. Gallen.”
