Law Society of Ireland appoints Mark Garrett as director general
The Law Society of Ireland has named Mark Garrett as its next director general, succeeding Ken Murphy following his retirement earlier this year.
Mr Garrett, the managing director of global consulting firm Teneo, will take the reins for seven years starting from 3 January 2022.
Law Society president James Cahill said: “We are delighted to appoint Mark, who brings to the role a wealth of knowledge and experience and an impressive track record.
“We are confident that Mark will be a great asset to the solicitors’ profession in seizing the opportunities and dealing with the challenges that face us.”
The appointment was approved at a meeting of the Law Society Council earlier today.
Mr Murphy retired from the Law Society in March after serving for 26 years as its director general.
