Law Society of Northern Ireland partners with sarcoma charity
The Law Society of Northern Ireland has named The Boom Foundation as its charity of the year for 2024.
The Boom Foundation is the only charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to supporting patients suffering from sarcoma cancer, and was established by Leona Rankin in April 2013 after his fiancé died from the rare form of soft tissue and bone cancer.
The lack of support they found in Northern Ireland — where over 100 new patients are diagnosed each year — fuelled Ms Rankin’s determination to put a support network in place for those suffering from this ‘forgotten cancer’.
To date, the charity has raised almost £500,000 through voluntary donations and its fundraising efforts.
The charity was chosen by the Law Society’s new president Darren Toombs, who was appointed late last month.
