The Law Society of Ireland has presented a cheque worth €325,000 to its Calcutta Run charity partners, The Hope Foundation and Dublin Simon Community.

Both charity partners received €160,000, with a further €5,000 being donated to the Southern Bar Law Association for its charity partners, Hope and Share.

Law Society president Eamon Harrington presented the cheque to representatives of The Hope Foundation and Dublin Simon Community on Thursday.

Each year, the Calcutta Run raises much needed funds to support people facing homelessness in Dublin and Kolkata.

Over 1,000 legal professionals, their families and friends took part in this year’s 6km and 10km Calcutta Run in Dublin on Saturday 25 May 2024, with another 800 members of the legal profession participating in events such as the Golf Classic, Rogers Recruitment Tag Rugby, and the Cork Calcutta Run.

Speaking at the cheque presentation event, Mr Harrington said: “On behalf of the Law Society, I would like to thank everyone who donated to this year’s Calcutta Run in aid of our charity partners and who came out to support on the day, including our sponsors, volunteers and hundreds of participants.

“The work of the Hope Foundation and Dublin Simon Community is crucial, providing services for people, including children and young adults, facing homelessness in Dublin and Kolkata.

“The Calcutta Run has raised over €5.6 million in support of homelessness services since its inception in 1999 and the legal profession is proud to continue to support these worthy causes.”
