Law Society to hold online election for first time
The Law Society of Ireland will use an online voting system to elect its Council for the first time.
At a special general meeting in March, 96 per cent of members voted to introduce electronic voting for Council elections.
Peter McKenna, vice-chair of the Law Society’s technology committee, said in July that the decision was at least partly due to the pandemic, which led to “the accelerated adoption of electronic communication technology by our profession”.
The Society hopes that e-voting will improve the poor turnout in Council elections, which currently stands at 24 per cent.
An e-voting platform provided by Simply Voting is currently being tested ahead of the next Council election in October.
