NI: Law Society to host elder law conference
The Law Society of Northern Ireland is hosting a multi-disciplinary elder law conference in Belfast next month, focusing on capacity law and issues for medico-legal professionals.
The “timely and important” is event is being organised in partnership with STEP NI, and all proceeds will go to charity Age NI.
The Society says the event will offer an opportunity to “both the medical and legal profession to come together to share their views and to discuss the difficulties surrounding capacity issues in Northern Ireland”.
Elder law solicitor Linda Johnston, a founding member of the Elder Law Group in Northern Ireland, will speak on “Challenges of acting for Clients with Capacity Issues”.
Dr Julian Sheather, specialist adviser on ethics and human rights policy for the British Medial Association, will speak about “Policy issues from the BMA Perspective”.
The conference will close with a panel discussion involving both speakers, Law Society president Ian Huddleston, and Eddie Lynch, the commissioner for older people.
More information is available from the conference flyer.
