NI: Lawyers join Belfast Pride for second year
Solicitors and barristers joined Belfast’s largest-ever Pride Parade on Saturday in solidarity with Northern Ireland’s LGBT community.
Human rights lawyer CiarĂ¡n Moynagh, who played the key role in organising the legal bloc, told Irish Legal News that the Lawyers with Pride group is going “from strength to strength”.
The group was set up last year to “ensure that the LGBT community know that they can access justice without fear or bias”.
Mr Moynagh added: “In its second year, Lawyers with Pride hosted Lord Kerr to deliver our inaugural Belfast Pride lecture and had a bigger and better turnout at the parade.
“We again received such a positive warm response. Much work remains to be done and there is an appetite for the group to develop.”
“As Lord Kerr said during his lecture: ‘Diversity in the profession is necessary, not only as it’s provides equality of opportunity but because it helps us answer the difficult questions.’”
