Lawyers lead the way at Grant Thornton 5K Run
Thousands of people took part in the Grant Thornton 5K Team Challenge on Wednesday, with Irish lawyers leading the way.
The five-kilometre run around the Dublin Docklands, organised in association with Athletics Run, raised cash for Make-A-Wish.
Louis McCarthy, associate solicitor at Mason Hayes & Curran, was the first man at the finish line, arriving in 15 minutes, 25 seconds.
Corporate partner David O’Donnell told Irish Legal News: “We were delighted to take part in the Grant Thornton 5K Corporate Team Challenge and it was an added bonus that our associate Louis McCarthy finished first place!”
Other firms taking part in the race included ByrneWallace, A&L Goodbody and Beauchamps Solicitors.
ByrneWallace entered two teams, with litigation solicitor James Roche the fastest of its runners, completing the race in 23.23 minutes.
Michael Walsh, partner and head of property, finished in under 25 minutes, as did senior property associate Claire O’Reilly.
Trainee solicitor Diarmaid Harnett of the firm’s restructuring and insolvency department and senior manager Leigh Cullen of its tax department both completed the race in under 28 minutes.
Property partner Alison O’Sullivan, property solicitor Tom Joyce, and senior corporate associate Brendan Gavin also took part.
A spokesperson for ByrneWallace told ILN: “ByrneWallace has supported the Challenge over the years, and is delighted to see it grow from just seven teams in its first year, to over 4,000 participants in just five years.
“As a firm, ByrneWallace places a strong emphasis on encouraging fitness in the workplace, offering employees onsite access to bootcamp classes and pilates. Taking part in this Challenge, provides the opportunity for employees to combine their interest in fitness, alongside meeting their industry peers in a social setting.”
A&L Goodbody took to Twitter to congratulate its massive contingent of staff and trainees who took part in the five-kilometre run.
A total of 14 teams from A&LG participated (56 people) and trainee Enda Kerin was first home in a time of 18.05 (#100 out of the entire field).
Beauchamps tweeted: “Same time next year?”
