Lawyers to address conference on primary schools
Senior lawyers are set to address a conference at Trinity College Dublin on recent legal developments impacting on the good management of primary schools.
The conference on Saturday 28 November will advise those involved in managing schools on how to reduce their potential exposure to legal liability by having sound processes in place, anticipating areas of concern, and responding appropriately to problematic situations.
It follows a conference on Saturday 7 November on post-primary schools.
Dr Neville Cox BL, associate professor and a fellow of Trinity College Dublin, will open the conference by speaking on “Codes of Dress and Religious Diversity”.
Dr Ciaran Cravan, senior counsel, will follow with a talk on “Bullying and Social Media: The School’s Legal Position”.
Practising barristers Dr Desmond Ryan, William Binchy and Dr Dympna Glendenning will speak on employment law changes for teachers and schools, the school’s duty of care to pupils, and Section 29 appeals respectively.
Professor Gerry Whyte, professor of law at Trinity College Dublin, will speak about equality legislation and the Education (Admissions to Schools) Bill 2015.
There will be time for questions and discussion after the conference.
