Legal academic Brian Doolan jailed for child sex abuse
A legal academic who authored a popular guide to Irish law is serving a 10-year prison sentence for sexual abuse, The Irish Times reports.
Brian Doolan, former senior law lecturer at Dublin Institute of Technology, was jailed a year ago but could not be named at the time.
His book, Principles of Irish Law, is in its eighth print edition and is widely used as a textbook.
Mr Doolan, 72, went on trial in 2013 and pleaded not guilty to 44 sexual abuse charges, including 11 of rape, and was convicted on all but two.
He received a prison sentence of 12 years, with two suspended.
His victim, Stephen Kershaw, has waived his anonymity to talk publicly about Mr Doolan’s abuse, which lasted from 1989-1993 when Mr Kershaw was aged between 12 and 16 years old.
