NI: Legal profession raises £7,300 for Marie Curie NI at annual Legal Walk/Run
Northern Ireland lawyers, judges and courts staff raised over £7,300 for charity Marie Curie NI at the annual Legal Walk/Run through Belfast city centre.
Over 200 participants dressed in bright yellow T-shirts set out from outside the High Court in Belfast for their five-kilometre walk/run to the Titanic Centre and back.
The annual event, organised by the Law Society of Northern Ireland, continues to grow in popularity, with increasing participation from all parts of the legal profession, including solicitors, barristers, judges and support staff.
The first three men to complete this year’s walk/run were Patrick Higgins of Donnelly & Wall Solicitors and Conor Kerr and Sebastian Bucher, both of Herbert Smith Freehills.
The first three women were Neasa Agnew of the Education Authority, Johanna Cunningham of Arthur Cox and Marie Anne McVeigh of MTB Law.
The fundraising total was £7,374, the Law Society confirmed today, all of which will be donated to Marie Curie NI to support its work providing care and support for people with a terminal illness.
Suzanne Rice, president of the Law Society, said: “I am delighted that so many colleagues in the legal profession, judiciary and support staff have committed themselves to participating in the Legal Walk/Run to help raise funds for Marie Curie Northern Ireland.”
Ciara Gallagher, head of philanthropy and corporate partnerships for Scotland and Northern Ireland at Marie Curie, added: “Marie Curie would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support and participation in the Legal Walk/Run 2019. The monies raised will go towards supporting families across Northern Ireland.”
