Making a Murderer lawyer to launch Bar’s Innocence Scholarships
Star lawyer Dean A. Strang, who featured in Netflix documentary Making a Murderer, is in Dublin today to launch The Bar of Ireland’s 2017 Innocence Scholarships.
Mr Strang is best known as one of the trial lawyers for Steven Avery, whose conviction was overturned when it was taken on by the Wisconsin Innocence Project.
The Bar provides annual scholarships for young members to volunteer with Innocence Projects in the US.
Five junior members will travel to Cincinnati, Wisconsin and Florida at the end of May, and Duke and Washington at the beginning of August.
A number of barristers who travelled to the US through the scheme last year will join Mr Strang and Bar chairman Paul McGarry SC in speaking at the launch in Dublin this afternoon.
