Mark Barr nominated for appointment to REIT board
Former Arthur Cox and Matheson partner Mark Barr has been nominated for appointment as a director of Ireland’s largest private landlord.
Activist shareholder Vision Capital Corporation, which owns a five per cent stake in Irish Residential Properties REIT plc (IRES), today called for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to be held to allow for the replacement of five incumbent directors, some of whom are retiring.
The Canadian-based shareholder has said it is dissatisfied with the management of the REIT under the current board and management team.
Among the five new directors proposed by Vision is Mr Barr, who started his legal career at Matheson and became a partner there before joining Arthur Cox and later serving as head of its commercial real estate practice from 2002 to 2016. He retired in 2018.
He is currently chair of the Commissioners of Irish Lights, which has responsibility for lighthouses around the island of Ireland, and also chairs its remuneration committee.
Vision proposes that a new chair of IRES should be chosen from among the five new proposed directors.
Arthur Cox LLP and Goodmans LLP are advising Vision.
