Mason Hayes & Curran help produce Build to Rent guide
A new guide to Build to Rent in Ireland has been launched in partnership with Dublin law firm Mason Hayes & Curran.
Build to Rent: A Best Practice Guide for Ireland, launched by Urban Land Institute (ULI) Ireland, is the first guide dedicated to the Irish market. It complements an existing UK Built to Rent guide.
Build to Rent is purpose-built residential accommodation and associated amenities built specifically for long-term rental, managed and serviced in an institutional manner by an institutional landlord.
Kevin Hoy, head of real estate at MHC, said: “The Irish housing market is experiencing significant pressures. Our intention with this report is to highlight how the Build to Rent concept and collaboration between the public and private sectors can contribute to alleviating these pressures and increase the supply of housing in Ireland.”
ULI Ireland chairman John Bruder added: “We are delighted to be launching the first Build to Rent guide focused on the Irish market. Build to Rent is a growing concept in many European cities and while it’s still in its infancy in Ireland, it has an important role to play in the supply of homes in Ireland over the coming years. The guide is the result of collaboration between many people with a responsibility for the provision of housing from both the private and public sectors.
“I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the guide and in particular Mason Hayes & Curran for their support of the project. Build to Rent is an important and much needed addition to Ireland’s housing supply shortage. The Ireland Build to Rent guide is compulsory reading for anyone interested in understanding the concept. It will be of value to developers, planners, architects, local authorities, and policy makers.”
Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy said: “ULI Ireland’s Build to Rent guide is a very valuable and welcome document. It highlights the potential for Build to Rent apartments and its role in providing high quality, well managed developments of scale.
“As in other countries, Build to Rent is at an early stage however it has a valuable role to play in significantly increasing the supply of new homes in Dublin and other cities.
“I’d like to thank ULI for producing the guide and contributing to the further development of this growing sector.”
