Matheson becomes limited liability partnership
Matheson, Ireland’s largest law firm by headcount, has been authorised to operate as a limited liability partnership (LLP).
The firm is the last of Ireland’s major law firms to take advantage of the legal structure made available for the first time in 2019.
Mason Hayes & Curran was the first major law firm to make the move in May 2020, while Arthur Cox followed suit in December 2020.
There are now over 400 limited liability partnerships authorised by the Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA), including all of the 10 largest law firms in Ireland by headcount.
The LSRA began accepting applications for authorisation as an LLP in November 2019 following the commencement of chapter 3 of part 8 of the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015.
In a statement, Matheson said: “Our relationship with our clients, our contractual arrangements and the full range of legal advice and services we provide remain unaffected by our authorisation to operate as an LLP.”
