Matheson has appointed Alice Duffy as partner and Rachel Barry and Jennifer Bassett as senior associates in its employment, pensions and benefits group.

The firm’s employment and pensions team now includes 28 specialist lawyers, including six partners and 11 senior associates.

Ms Duffy initially trained with Clyde & Co before joining Matheson in 2014 as a senior associate. From 2019 she worked with an international law firm, before recently rejoining Matheson as partner.

She is particularly experienced in supporting multi-national companies on international people-related projects including global workforce expansion and restructuring.

She advises employers across the technology, financial services, retail and hospitality and life sciences sectors. She has particular, hands-on technology and fintech sector experience, having completed secondments with a number of multinational technology companies.

Ms Duffy is the third partner to join Matheson’s employment, pensions and benefits team in the last three years, bringing the total number of partners in the group to six.

New senior associate Ms Barry has joined Matheson from another large Irish law firm, where she worked on disciplinary investigations, litigation, employment contracts and equality law.

Ms Bassett has joined from the Irish office of a large international law firm and has extensive experience in providing discrete and commercially-focused advice and support on employment law compliance issues, workforce restructuring and internal employee procedures.

Matheson managing partner Michael Jackson said: “We are delighted to welcome Alice back to Matheson as a partner. Her experience in advising internationally-focused companies, particularly in the technology sector, aligns with our long-standing strategy of being the law firm of choice to internationally-focused businesses and financial institutions doing business in and from Ireland.

“Our employment, pensions and benefits practice continues to grow its market share and the addition of Alice, together with senior associates with the skills and experience of Rachel and Jennifer, reflects our continued commitment to investing in talent across all of our strategically important practice areas.

“I look forward to working closely with Alice, Rachel and Jennifer as we continue on our growth journey.”

Bryan Dunne, partner and head of Matheson’s employment, pensions and benefits group, said: “The continued growth and success of our employment group each year for the past number of years depends on attracting and developing the best talent available, in order to continue to provide the best possible legal advice to our growing client base.

“With Alice, Rachel and Jennifer now also joining the team, we are adding even further depth and senior level expertise to our extensive team, across all of our key sectors.

“It is particularly rewarding for the team and I welcome Alice back, who we know from past experience will further complement our ability to provide our clients with sector-tailored focus and support.”
