Maynooth students establish International Law Society
Law students at Maynooth University have launched a new International Law Society, believed to be the first of its kind in Ireland.
The new student society aims to host talks and panel discussions on various issues, including the international legal response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the likelihood of Putin being brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The society will also shed light on career opportunities in the international law, including with the UN, NGOs and the Irish government.
Kenneth Henry, the inaugural president of the society, told Irish Legal News: “Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine once again teaches us the importance of a strong rule of international law.
“Despite its importance, international law doesn’t get the same attention that other areas of law get at university. Our society hopes to allow students to gain an insight into this area of law.”
