McCann FitzGerald sponsors UCD essay competition and art installation
Dublin firm McCann FitzGerald has sponsored an essay competition and commissioned a new art installation as part of a partnership with UCD School of Law.
The firm launched the Law into Art essay competition to include the student community in the process of commissioning the new art piece for the university’s Sutherland building.
Students were asked to submit a list of the ten key moments in legal history, as well as a 500-word essay on one of those moments, explaining its significance and why it should be considered in the context of an artwork relating to legal history.
The winning essay, by Elaine Egan, focussed on the enactment of the Constitution as a potential subject of art.
The runners-up were Conor Gilheany and Robert Lee.
The winners were recognised by Barry Devereux, managing partner at McCann FitzGerald, at a prizewinners’ reception in the firm’s offices on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay.
Mr Devereux told Irish Legal News: “McCann FitzGerald has a long standing relationship with the UCD School of Law. Many of our partners and colleagues began their legal careers in UCD.
“We are delighted to continue our support of UCD by commissioning a bespoke piece of artwork for the Sutherland building which we believe will prove a thought provoking piece of work for the next generation of legal minds to pass through these halls.”
