NI: Ministry of Defence to pay out over £900,000 in latest Bloody Sunday settlement
Over £900,000 is set to be paid out in damages to the families of people shot by British soldiers on Bloody Sunday in 1972.
The latest settlement with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will see the families of nine people who were shot and killed paid £75,000 each, while five people who were wounded will receive £50,000.
The High Court in Belfast heard that the latest cases involved a combined total of £925,000 in damages.
Fearghal Shiels of Madden & Finucane Solicitors, who represented many of the plaintiffs, said: “We welcome the settlements reached and hope to achieve satisfactory outcomes in the remaining actions as soon as possible.”
Madden & Finucane Solicitors has now secured almost £1.6 million in compensation for Bloody Sunday victims so far.
