NI: MLA calls for submissions to abortion bill consultation
An MLA has marked International Women’s Day with a call for further submissions to her consultation on new abortion legislation.
Clare Bailey, the newly-returned Green MLA for Belfast South, said: “You can contribute to Women’s Day and lasting positive change through participation in my consultation on safe access to healthcare.
“I am proposing legislation which would create safe zones around healthcare facilities, thereby safeguarding women’s safety as they access services.
“As part of the legislative process, I launched a consultation on the matter in February.
“You can be bold for change and participate in the global day of action by responding to the consultation.
“The proposed legislation is not about the legal status of abortion, but instead fulfilling the ideals of International Women’s Day by promoting positive change for women through safe access to healthcare facilities.”
