NI: MPs launch formal inquiry into Northern Ireland’s abortion laws
The UK Parliament’s women and equalities committee has today launched a formal inquiry into Northern Ireland’s abortion laws.
The committee will seek evidence on the case for reform from legal professionals as well as the general public, women and medical professionals.
It will also seek to find out more about the experiences of women in Northern Ireland who have been affected by its abortion laws.
Committee chair Maria Miller said: “The women and equalities select committee has decided to hold a formal inquiry into abortion law in Northern Ireland following renewed concerns raised by CEDAW committee about restricted access and the UK Supreme Court ruling in June.
“The committee is seeking evidence from the people of Northern Ireland and organisations involved to inform this inquiry.”
Written submissions can be sent to the inquiry through the online portal until 10 December 2018.
