Mr Justice Cross to address charity CPD event on breast cancer litigation

Doireann O'Mahony

Mr Justice Kevin Cross will open a CPD event on breast cancer litigation in Dublin next week in aid of the Marie Keating Foundation.

The event, taking place next Thursday 1 November, 1.30pm-5.30pm in the Distillery Building, has been organised by barrister Doireann O’Mahony and will hear from a range of industry experts.

Proceeds will be donated to the Marie Keating Foundation, which provides free cancer information and services for men and women in Ireland.

Speakers include Professor Robert Mansel, emeritus professor of surgery at Cardiff University School of Medicine and president of the European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists; Dr Andrew Wardley, consultant medical oncologist at Christie Hospital Manchester NHS Trust; and Robert Caulfield, consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin.

Ms O’Mahony told Irish Legal News: “Breast cancer is the second most common cancer affecting women in Ireland, with approximately 3,000 new cases and 700 deaths every year.

“Lack of awareness and diagnostic difficulties often delay the diagnosis of breast cancer, with serious consequences for patients’ health and life expectancy. Delays mean poorer outcomes, and for those who survive, the invasive treatment involved often leaves a devastating impact on their body image.

“At this special event, delegates will hear from international world class experts in the field of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as hearing about the litigation which results from substandard care. Mr Justice Kevin Cross will open the event and all of the proceeds raised will be donated to the Marie Keating Foundation which provides cancer information and support.”

The event qualifies for four hours of general CPD and tickets are available for €150.
