Mr Justice Murray completes review of data retention laws
Mr Justice John L. Murray, former Chief Justice of Ireland, has completed his review of data retention legislation.
The final report of his Review of the Law on the Retention of and Access to Communications Data has been received by Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald.
A copy of the report has been forwarded to Attorney General Máire Whelan for her consideration, particularly against the background of recent findings by the European Court of Justice in this area of law.
Following that, a spokesperson said Ms Fitzgerald will “bring Mr Justice Murray’s report to the Government with a view to its publication”.
A spokesperson said Ms Fitzgerald was “grateful” and thanked Mr Justice Murray for his work, which was carried out on a pro bono basis.
