Mr Justice Robert Barr
The funeral took place today of retired High Court judge Mr Justice Robert Barr who served for 17 years on the bench before retiring in 2002 aged 72.
Mr Justice Barr enjoyed a lengthy and distinguished legal career. After retiring as a judge, he went on to head the four-year tribunal of inquiry into the shooting dead of John Carthy at his home in Abbeylara by gardaĆ during a stand-off.
The tribunal, which cost 18 million euros, was instrumental in forcing the GardaĆ to apologise to the family and to reform its procedures.
Mr Justice Barr is survived by his widow, Mary, and his four sons,Robert, Anthony, Patrick, Michael, and daughter Louise. Anthony is a High Court judge.
His funeral took place at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock, Dublin, before burial at Shanganagh Cemetery.
