Mr Justice Ryan retires from the bench
Mr Justice Seán Ryan, president of the Court of Appeal, has retired after fifteen years on the bench.
He sat for the last time on Friday, where senior members of the judiciary and legal profession paid tribute to his legacy as first judge to preside over the Court of Appeal, The Irish Times reports.
Attorney General Séamus Woulfe SC said his 2009 report for the Commission to Inquiry into Child Abuse, which he chaired, was among the judge’s “lasting legacies” to the people of Ireland.
Almost all judges of the Irish superior courts were in attendance for Mr Justice Ryan’s last sitting, as well as his wife Ruth, their two sons and other family members, and both serving and retired professionals.
