Ms Justice Nuala Butler nominated to join Court of Appeal
Ms Justice Nuala Butler has been nominated for appointment to the Court of Appeal in a move that will make it the first court in Irish history to have a majority of women judges.
A judge of the High Court since 2020, Ms Justice Butler’s appointment will fill the vacancy created by Mr Justice David Barniville’s appointment in July as president of the High Court.
A graduate of University College Dublin and the King’s Inns, Ms Justice Butler called to the Bar in 1986 and the Inner Bar in 2003.
She was a member of the Employment Appeals Tribunal from 1989 to 1992, chaired the Mining Board from 1999 to 2002, and chaired the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for Ireland from 2016 to 2019.
