Navan courthouse earmarked for refurbishment
Navan Courthouse is among court buildings earmarked for refurbishment once the current programme of courthouse improvements is complete, the Meath Chronicle reports.
District court sittings at Navan were moved to Trim some time ago due to problems with overcrowding.
The Courts Service of Ireland has faced calls to expedite work in Navan because of recent reports that Trim Courthouse is also overcrowded on district court sitting days.
The service is currently engaged in a programme of works to bring seven courthouses on line in the next 10 months.
A spokesperson for the Courts Service told the Meath Chronicle: “When this programme of work is completed, we hope to move immediately to start work on a new programme of courthouse refurbishment and one of the towns earmarked for work is Navan.”
The current Navan Courthouse building was opened in April 2004.
