Netflix has released a three-part series on the infamous Sophie Toscan du Plantier murder that took place in Co Cork in 1996.
The new limited series was released this week and is already in the ‘UK top ten most watched’ category on the streaming platform.
The three episodes, each around an hour long, are split into chapters to take the viewer through the background to the case, the key suspects considered during the investigation, and the authorities’ quest for justice spanning many years.
Although the murder took place in the late 1990s, this unusual case has continued to capture the attention of the public as the investigation spanned across decades.
The prime suspect, Ian Bailey, has been the focus of multiple investigations but never found guilty by a court of law in Ireland.
The release of the documentary comes shortly after the latest twist in the case, as Ireland’s High Court ruled last October that Mr Bailey could not be extradited to France, where he was found guilty of the murder in absentia in May 2019.
