New book examines key legal cases which have brought change in Ireland
A new book edited by Professor Ivana Bacik and Dr Mary Rogan examines key legal cases which have brought about significant social change in Ireland.
Legal Cases that Changed Ireland, published by Clarus Press, is based on a 2015 series of seminars under four themes exploring the relationship between legal action and social change.
The first chapter deals with Women Changing Law, Changing Society, with contributions from Orla O’Connor, Máirín de Búrca, Dr Micheline Sheehy-Skeffington, Mary O’Toole SC, Professor Yvonne Scannell, and Professor Aileen McColgan.
The second, Sexual Identity, Law and Social Change, has contributions from Brian Sheehan, Senator David Norris, Senator Katherine Zappone, Dr Ann Louise Gilligan, and Professor Mark Bell.
The third, Immigration, Asylum and Legal Change, has contributions from Catherine Cosgrave, Gandhi Mallak, Dr Patricia Brazil, and Professor Cathryn Costello.
The fourth, Public Interest Litigation; Does It Work?, includes contributions from Rachel Power, Dr Lydia Foy, Kevin Brophy, and Professor Gerry Whyte.
