New book explores intricacies of Irish legal system
A new book for students sets down and examines the Irish legal system in a clear and accessible manner, while also requiring readers to think about deeper issues relating to law and its interaction with society.
Fundamentals of the Irish Legal System: Law, Policy and Politics, written by law lecturers Liam Thornton, Tanya Ni Mhuirthile and Catherine O’Sullivan, will be published next month.
Mr Thornton is a lecturer at University College Dublin, while Ms Ni Mhuirthile lectures at Dublin City University and Ms O’Sullivan lectures at University College Cork.
The book explains and critically assesses how Irish law is made and applied, as well as the intricacies of the Irish legal system, while also providing analysis and discussion on key areas and controversies.
It includes a section on how to find, read and analyse legislation, cases, other textbooks and journal articles so that students can put their knowledge into practice.
