New Court of Appeal and District Court judges
Mr Justice Brian O’Moore is to be elevated to the Court of Appeal and 10 new District Court judges appointed, the government has announced.
The High Court judge will fill the vacancy arising from the appointment of Ms Justice Aileen Donnelly to the Supreme Court in June.
The 10 newly-nominated District Court judges are barristers Nicola Jane Andrews, Monika Leech and Michael Ramsey, and solicitors Stephanie Coggans, Fiona Brennan, Catherine Hayden, Philip O’Leary, Adrian Harris, William Aylmer and Michael Jnr Connellan.
Two vacancies on the District Court arose due to the retirement of Judge Mary Emer Larkin and Judge Dermot Simms in May, while the other eight nominations arise from the expansion of judicial numbers.
The overall number of District Court judges will increase from 63 to 71.
The Government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.
