New ESG Virtual Experience Programme launches at Matheson
A new Environmental, Social and Governance Virtual Experience Programme has been launched at Matheson – the first of its kind to be established by an Irish law firm.
The programme will be hosted on Forage, a free, open access platform, and will aim to upskill aspiring solicitors and enable them to build their knowledge and understanding of the legal profession.
Students will get a taste of life as a commercial lawyer in an ESG practice, with scenario-based training across a range of modules including the circular economy and sustainable finance. Once completed, participants receive a certificate and can include the programme on their CV.
The programme will allow students to experience life at an international law firm by simulating daily tasks and interactions, all in the context of real-life, relevant issues in the world of environmental, social, and governance practice. Taking an innovative approach to online learning, the programme replicates an on-site internship experience through webinars, training sessions, virtual assignments and project work. Each task and instruction is delivered by Matheson legal professionals, creating a virtual interpersonal workplace environment.
Commenting on the announcement, learning and development director, Nicola White said: “We’re delighted to launch our ESG Virtual Experience Programme in association with Forage – the first experience of its kind in Ireland focusing on environmental, social and governance issues.
“The programme has been specially designed to provide an insight into what lawyers do on a day-to-day basis, giving students a strong foundation for their careers by providing valuable skills and career confidence through relevant real-life experiences. This programme combines our investment in innovation with our commitment to improving access to the legal profession for all.”
